Fantastischer Song von Arcade Fire "Wake Up" zum neuen Spike Jonze Film: "Where the Wild Things Are". Veröffentlichungstermin ist der 16. Oktober 2009. Da wird der Film vor Weihnachten wohl noch in Europa zu sehen sein. Sieht spannend aus. Den Trailer kannst du dir hier anschauen. Infos bei imdb.com.

Ambient Drone auf Cello Basis. Ungewöhnlich laut und leise. Aber da gibt es bessere KünstlerInnen im Bereich Ambient und Drone. Und wenn’s ums Cello geht toppt niemand Tom Cora. (6/10)

Wesentlich innovativer als „Earn“. Verspielt, jazziger, verschrobener Elektro Wirr Warr auf dem Staubgold Label. Gut. (7/10)

Wesentlich ruhiger gehen Isis zu Werke und es hat sich wenig geändert auch daran das ich die singende Stimme nicht mag. Abgenutzt. (6/10)

Sigur Ros auf Electronica mit einer Prise Shoegazing und das gar nicht mal so schecht. Soll man das wirklich Elektro-Gaze nennen? (6.5/10)

Marissa Nader – Little Hells
Der Hype um Neo Folk geht weiter. Ein paar nette Liedchen gibt es hier zu hören. Doch klingt alles so wahsinnig beliebig und vergänglich. Da empfehle ich doch eher Soap&Skin oder Bat For Lashes (5.5/10)

Nadja - When I See the Sun Always Shines on TV
Coverversionen von My Bloody Valentine, Codeine, Swans, Slayer, The Cure, u.a. im Drone Style a la Nadja. Und das rauscht und lärmt auch ganz schön daher ohne das man die Songs nicht mehr erkennt. Fein! Trotzdem habe ich mir von Nadja mehr erwartet irgendwie. Mir fehlen die Gewaltausbrüche, das Düstere, die brutalen Gitarrenriffs. Natürlich wesentlich besser als 80% des Zeugs was mir sonst unterkommt aber nicht die erhoffte Erleuchtung. (7.5/10)

Ryuichi Sakamoto – Out Of Noise
Ambient Piano Loops vom Meister seines Faches. Sehr schön ruhig, sehr gefühlvoll. Ab und an etwas Elektrogeblubber aber niemals nervig oder zu pompös. Wahnsinnig traurig. (7.5/10)

Sand Snowman – Two Way Mirror
Folk. Unkonventionell. Träumerisch. Gefällt mir sehr gut. Hat irgendwie das gewisse Etwas um sich von den Massen der Neo Folk Veröffentlichungen der letzten Zeit abzusetzen. (7/10)

SND – Atavism
Minimal Elektro. Sehr reduziert, hypnotisch. Ich als SND Fan der ersten Stunde finde das natürlich geil. Sehr sperrig. (7/10)

Venetian Snares – Filth
Oldskool Elektro mit sich überschlagenden Beats a la Squarepusher, Aphex Twin. Wild, unhörbar, sauschnell. Drillbill, Drum & Bass in hyperschnell. Fett. Punk. (6.5/10)

"We bought a bucket at a bazaar in a side-street, and we decided not to bother pulling out the costumes. We moved some tables to set up a splendid harmonium, we took over the piano, and everything seemed ready… the only thing missing was two drummer’s brushes, which weren’t in the van. • Audiolicious Part Six 2009

Nach drei Tagen Dauerschlaf (wegen einer Erkältung mit Fieber) geht in die Schlafrichtung nun wirklich nichts mehr. Was kann man da besseres tun als etwas über die zuletzt gehörten Alben zu schreiben. Das Postfach war auf jeden Fall voll.

Cymbals Eat Guitars – Why There Are Mountains
Newcomer Indie Rock Band aus New York City. Und man hört sofort deren Referenzen raus: Pavement, Built To Spill, Modest Mouse, Pixies. Sehr ambitioniert, energisch, explosiv das Ganze. Viel Gitarre, einige Trompeten, mal laut mal etwas beschwingter. Kein schlechtes Debüt meine Herren. Den Hype und die besonders euphorischen Reviews (pitchfork.com) kann ich allerdings nicht ganz nachvollziehen. Aber vielleicht kommt da ja noch etwas nach mehrmaligen Hören. (7/10)

DOOM – Born Like This
Endlich mal wieder etwas Hip Hop. DOOM drops the MF prefix from his name! Un wie nicht anders zu erwarten ist das schon verdammt phatt was MF Doom hier abliefert. Guter harter Hip Hop mit viel Flow! ‚Ballskin’ und ‚More Rhymin’ sind schon sehr geil! Eins versteh ich allerdings nicht wieso die Tracks immer nur so zwei Minuten lang sind? Hier noch einige Infos: „MF Doom fans take note : the Vaudeville Villain’s forthcoming new album "Born Like This" sees the metal-masked rapper dropping the MF (for Metal Fingers) in favor of simply calling himself, in all caps, DOOM.
The album also features collaborations with the likes of Wu-Tang’s Raekwon and Ghostface and production from Jake One and the Detroit legend J-Dilla, prior to his death. But not content to leave it at that, DOOM remains one of the few hip-hop artists who could theme his album on something, let alone someone, has uniquely non-hip-hop as the great American everyman poet Charles Bukowski.“ (6.5/10)

Fog In The Shell – Private South
„Fog In The Shell mix different elements such post-metal, post-rock, math and noise, like Isis, Neurosis and Clann Zu, dark atmosphere like My Dying Bride, but in several parts also feels the melancholic by Nick Cave and Black Heart Procession.“ Gesanglich könnte man meiner Meinung nach noch eine Ecke derber werden. Musikalisch geht es bisweilen doch sehr straight ab! (6.5/10)

Jacaszek – Pentral
„Treny“ das Vorgängeralbum von Jacaszek mochte ich eigentlich nicht so sonderlich, besonders wenn die klassischen Gesangsspuren eingewoben wurden. Jacaszek schreibt zu seinem neuen Album „Pentral“ folgendes: „My new album PENTRAL (lat: inside, spirit, temple) will be released at 16th of March in Poland (Gusstaff Records). The new project is an attempt to describe a gothic church interior by means of sounds. A temple ownes its special atmosphere not only to visual elements but also to characteristic acoustics – reverb, enhancingand prolonging a slightest whisper into infinity.“ Eigentlich klingt das sehr spannend und ist dann auch sehr orchestral, scheppernd, klirrend. Wilde Orgeln, ruhige Momente, Ambient. Flüsternd, rauschend, Chöre. Nur ist mir das zu einfach gehalten ab und an eine Kirchenorgel durch die Stille brechen zu lassen und sonst vor lauter Andacht langweilig dahin zu wabbern. (5.5/10)

Shoegazer! Und das im Jahre 2009. Sehr mellow, poppig, mit viel Gitarrenschrammel. Pitchfork überschlägt sich mal wieder mit Lobeshymnen. Das ist auch alles schön anzuhören und bestimmt für Shoegazer Fans ein Muss, doch mich berührt das nicht so wahnsinnig. Da kramm ich doch lieber meine alten My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive oder Codeine Platten raus. Trotzdem nicht schlecht und sehr schwungvoll. (7/10)

Pet Shop Boys - Yes
"[...] Es gab keinen wichtigeren Termin als die Ankunft des neuen Pet-Shop-Boys-Albums "Yes". schreibt Jan Wigger auf spiegel.de Eben noch hatten Neil Tennant und Chris Lowe uns gedankenversunken mit "Luna Park" und "I Made My Excuses And Left" vom tollen "Fundamental" allein gelassen, nun sind sie zurück, um in "All Over The World" gleichzeitig eine universale Empfindung und ihr eigenes Werk zu erklären: "It's sincere and subjective/ Superficial and true/ Easy and predictable/ Exciting and new." Keine Frage: Statt "Yes" könnte die Platte auch "Yes/No" heißen, bejahen und negieren die elf neuen Stücke die Möglichkeit der Liebe doch gleichermaßen. Liegt es an mir oder eher an dir? Die Mauer, die als Metapher in "Building A Wall" aufgezogen wird, trifft es auf den Punkt: "I'm building a wall/ A fine wall/ Not so much to keep you out/ More to keep me in."
Die folgenden Vergleiche mögen genügen: "Yes" verströmt eine ähnlich unterkühlte Melancholie wie Chris Cunninghams Video zu Björks "All Is Full Of Love", wie Kraftwerks "Radioaktivität", wie Gerhard Richters Gemälde "Ema (Akt auf einer Treppe)". Das formidable "Beautiful People", von Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) mit distinguierten Streichern begleitet, greift ganz tief ans Herz, "Vulnerable" zwingt selbst den rigorosesten Zyniker in die Knie und "Love Etc." ist eine Single, die es mit "Heart", wenn nicht sogar mit "Se a vida é" aufnehmen kann. Und dann zieht einem das erschütternde, unsagbar großartige "The Way It Used To Be" beide Füße unter dem Boden weg: "What is left of love here that didn't drift away?". Alle Träume zerbrochen, alle Scherben aufgekehrt. "Yes" ist nicht die größte Pet Shop Boys seit "Very". "Yes" ist die größte Pet Shop Boys seit "Behaviour"." (10) Jan Wigger. A Storm Of Light & Nadja – Primitive North Split
Im Gegensatz zu DOOM halten es ja bekanntlich Nadja nicht aus einen Song unter 20 Minuten zu produzieren. Und das ist auch gut so. Zwei A Storm Of Light Songs und ein Nadja Track, außerdem jeweils ein Song, wo man sich gegenseitig remixed. Die A Storm Of Light Tracks gefallen mir überhaupt nicht. Furchtbarer Gesang, die Songs nicht sonderlich orginell und schlecht metalig. Nadja wieder mit einem fantastischen 22:52 Minuten Monstertrack, der einen in der Luft zerfetzt. Drone, Ambient, Gitarrenwände! Aber der Überhammer ist der Nadja Remix des ASOL Tracks ‚Brother’. Das klingt derbe nach Neurosis! Ganz ganz grosses Kino! Wohl eher ein Kino was dem Erdboden gleich gemacht wird ;) ASOL versuchen dann noch irgendwie kreativ zu sein, was ihnen nur bedingt gelingt.

Bat For Lashes – Two Suns
Bat for Lashes second album sees Brighton's Natasha Khan introducing some special guests, notably Scott Walker and Yeasayer, and, more bizarrely, her alter-ego, Pearl, described by the press release as "a destructive, self-absorbed, blonde, femme fatale of a persona who acts as a direct foil to Khan's more mystical, desert-born spiritual self."
The bombastic release goes on to explain that the follow-up to Mercury Music Prize nominated Fur and Gold is "a record of modern-day fables exploring dualities on a number of levels – two lovers, two planets, two sides of a personality," with Khan meditating on "the philosophy of the self and duality, examining the need for both chaos and balance, for both love and pain, in addition to touching on metaphysical ideas concerning the connections between all existence."
Two Suns was recorded in segments in California, New York, London, Brighton and Wales. Co-produced by Khan and Dave Kosten, her collaborator on Fur and Gold, the album also features Bat for Lashes' touring band, The Blue Dreams, on several tracks. prefixmag (7/10)

Handsome Furs – Face Control
Da lassen wir die Band doch am besten selber zu Wort kommen:
The second album by this Montreal band draws inspiration from Eastern Europe and re-maps Eastern Bloc surveillance state themes to contemporary life, showing the irony of our acceptance of self-monitoring through blogs, credit/debit accounts, surveillance cameras, and GPS devices. The album's juxtaposition of cold, metronomic, electronic beats with jagged, dissonant and frail guitars convey what it is to be human in the 21st century. At the same time, it provides the means to opt out. (7/10)

Gentleman Reg – Jet Black
Nachdem mir das neue Metric (Emily Haines) Album so gar nicht gefallen hat war ich doch sehr gespannt auf Gentleman Reg neues Werk „Jet Black“. Gentleman Reg wieder so einer aus dem Broken Social Scene Umfeld auf Arts & Crafts, der bei The Hidden Camera, Arcade Fire, Constantines, Islands aktiv war. Doch auch hier plätschert es etwas uninspiriert herum, mal etwas rockiger, mal folkig. Leider schafft es Herr Reg niemals an Brken Social Scene heran ist aber wenigstens etwas besser als die enttäuschende Metric Platte. Mehr aber auch nicht. (6/10)

Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Phoenix machen dort weiter wo zuletzt mit „It’s Never Been Like That“ aufgehört. Kickende, schwungvolle Pop-Songs mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert und Hit Potential. Da kann man nichts falsch machen und ist immer wieder total begeistert. Selbst beim zehnten Durchhören wird es niemals langweilig! Magnifique! (8/10)

Wolves In The Throne Room – Black Cascade
"Black Cascade" is characterized by a heavy and powerful analog sound and a deft touch with songwriting and arrangement. The crumbling roar of decidedly old-school tube amps unite with layers of mossy analog synthesizer and cataclysmic percussion. Blazing and crystalline Metal riffs slowly collapse and shift into ritualistic dirges that invoke endless rain falling upon the ancient cedars of the pacific North West. It is as if the instruments are controlled by shadowy and elemental forces of nature rather than three forest-dwellers from Olympia, Washington, schreibt Southern Lord auf ihrer Homepage. „Black Cascade“ reicht leider nicht ganz an „Two Hunters“ heran ist aber immer noch sehr solide und outstanding! Es fehlen die wabbernden, ausufernden Ambient Sounds die „Two Hunters“ besonders gemacht haben. (6.5/10)

• Tipp: Pomegranates - Everybody, Come Outside

Nachdem es Fanfarlo mit "Reservoir" sogar geschafft hat Platte des Monats Februar zu werden und The Antlers "Hospice" über den Klee gelobt wurden, will ich euch wieder eine wirklich gute Newcomer Indie Pop Platte ans Herz legen: Pomegranates "Everybody, Come Outside!"
Die Gitarrenspiele erinnern teilweise sehr an Foals. Der Sound ist aber viel komplexer und nicht so die "Drauf Hau" wie Foals. Alle BiologInnen klicken bitte den Punkt vor Tipp ;)

Since Grizzly Bear released their hushed, fragile Yellow House LP in 2006, the Brooklyn quartet has done things that experimental rock bands don't generally get to do. They've toured arenas opening for Radiohead, they've debuted new songs on late night talk shows, and they've generally earned a rep as one of the most fascinating young bands in the country. Later this month, they'll play a sold out show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House, with the Brooklyn Philharmonic backing them. Mit ‚Veckatimest’ ist Grizzly Bear neuerlich ein grosser Wurf gelungen und muss sich nicht hinter Animal Collectives 'Merriweather Post Pavilion' verstecken. ‚Two Weeks’ zum Beispiel ist ein herrlicher, sensationeller Track zum verlieben. ‚Fine For Now’ ähnlich verrückt und verspielt und grandios. Und das ganze Album verbreitet einen wunderlichen, irreal versponnenen Glanz, klingt so frisch und zeitgemäß, eine wahre Freude! (8.5/10). tonband.blogspot.com

Zwei Neuigkeiten muss ich dann doch noch kundtun. Einen neuen Phoenix Song vom im Mai zu veröffentlichen Album 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' gibt es hier zum Anhören und Downloaden. Und das Röyksopp Video habe ich in ansprechender Qualität gefunden.

• Audiolicious Part Four 2009

Röyksopp - Junior
Erinnert euch kurz an 2001. ‚Eple’, ‚Poor Leno’, ‚Remind Me’ = ‚Melody A.M.’. Grossartige eingängige Pop Perlen. Sicher irgendwann hatte man sich sattgehört und dann wurden die Songs zum nervigen Konsens und man hörte sie immer und überall. Trotzdem: Fantastische Songs mit sexy Pop Appeal. 2005 ‚The Understanding’. Keiner der Songs reichte auch nur annähernd an die drei klasse Tracks vom ersten Album heran. Ok ‚Only This Moment’ und ‚What Else Is there?’ waren ok überzeugten mich allerdings nur geremixed.
Nun ist März 2009 und Röyksopp haben ein neues Album in den Läden. ‚Junior’ heisst es und ich bin schon etwas nervös. Wird das jetzt eher wie ‚Melody A.M. oder doch noch schlechter als ‚The Understanding’?
Track One ‚Happy Up Here’ klingt eigentlich ganz schmissig frisch. Erinnert wirklich an Röyksopps geniale Momente und featured wieder ein klasse, lustiges Video (wahrscheinlich demnächst auf running sushi zu sehen). Das macht doch Hoffnung ist nur leider so schnell zu ende und kommt nicht über den Intro Charakter des Albums hinweg. Doch dann nimmt das neue Album ‚Junior’ seinen bescheidenen Lauf. Schon ‚The Girl And The Robot’ ist verdammt trancig und wirkt so wahnsinnig belanglos. Mich beschleicht ein ungutes Gefühl. Und um es kurz aber schmerzhaft zu machen. Es läuft leider so bescheiden und belanglos durch. Schade eigentlich... (6/10)

The Decemberists - The Hazard of Love
Kommen wir nun zur zweiten grossen Veröffentlichung dieses Monats: The Decemberists mit ‚The Hazard of Love’. Gut The Decemberists war jetzt nie eine Band die mich restlos in Verzückungen versetzte, doch mochte ich schon den ein oder anderen Song irgendwie. Mir war schon immer der Gesang zu aalglatt und ich mag es auch nicht wenn die Stimme so in den Vordergrung gemischt wird. Doch waren ‚The Crane Wife Pt. 3’ oder ‚Oh Valencia!’ gute schöne Tracks. Und um mal was vorweg zu nehmen: The Decemberists ändern sich auch auf ihrem neuen Album wenig. Grundsolider Indie-Folk, Indie-Country. Nie so gut wie Arcade Fire aber immer leicht, flockig, poppig. Oh wartet... ‚A Bower Scene’ ist sogar fast schon krachig. Guter Song! Irgendwie erinnert mich die Stimme an eine andere Band. Will mir aber ums Verrecken nicht einfallen. Ist aber irgendwas aus dem Incubus Umfeld oder doch irgendetwas Altes, egal. Festzuhalten gilt, dass mir die Decemberists immer noch zu Country sind, ich Mundharmonikas nicht mag und diese jaulenden (Country)Gitarren hasse. HALT! ‚The Rake’s Song’ und ‚The Abduction Of Margaret’ doch wieder sehr schmissig und rockig. Ah das klingt ja oft nach Trail of Dead. Das Rockige und der Gesang ;) Es gibt viel zu entdecken. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Von mir am ungeduldigsten erwartet wurde das neue Album von den Grizzly Bears ‚Veckatimest’. ‚Yellow House’ war schon ein wunderschönes poppiges Album mit wohlbedachten Beach Boys Anleihen. Und mit ‚Veckatimest’ ist Grizzly Bear neuerlich ein grosser Wurf gelungen und muss sich nicht hinter Animal Collectives Merriweather Post Pavilion verstecken. ‚Two Weeks’ zum Beispiel ist ein herrlicher, sensationeller Track zum verlieben. ‚Fine For Now’ ähnlich verrückt und verspielt und grandios. Und das ganze Album verbreitet einen wunderlichen, irreal versponnenen Glanz, klingt so frisch und zeitgemäss, was eine wahre Freude ist! 'Foreground' ist so sensationel gesungen und minimal instrumentalisiert, ich könnt heulen ;) Grizzly Bear sind wesentlich poppiger als Animal Collective, dafür aber weniger folkig als Fleet Foxes, aber nicht schechter vielleicht sogar besser? Besser als Beide? Klarer Anwärter auf das Album des Monats März! (8.5/10)

Soap&Skin - Lovetune For Vacuum
Dann haben wir da noch das Wunderkind aus Österreich Soap&Skin mit einem wirklich unter die Haut gehenden ‚Lovetune For Vacuum’. Gefällt mir recht gut, ein bisserl viel Verzweiflung, Gänsehaut. Sehr facettenreich, ein wenig oft Piano oder Klavierbegleitung, etwas mehr Streicher, ein wenig Elektro, dann und wann schlägt Portishead um sich, Joanna Newsom ohne Harfe. Gesanglich wirklich eine Sensation. Oft sehr pathetisch, trotzdem düster zart schön. (7/10) Jan Wigger auf spiegel-online vergibt 9/10!

The Antlers - Hospice
Und dann wären da noch die grossartigen The Antlers mit ‚Hospice’, die ich wirklich sehr mag und die mich total überwältigt haben. Wieso? Das versuch ich noch herrauszufinden und werde es euch dann ganz Exklusive mitteilen. Doch das wird dann ein anders mal geschehen müssen. (8/10)

For the past few months I have lived in a very lonely world, one in which I am one of a handful of people that has been permitted to hear the new album from The Antlers and have almost no one to rave about it with! Thankfully the world I have resided in is about to come to an end as The Antlers have finally set a release date for the tremendous Hospice. To put my feelings for this record into relative terms; had it been released last year this would have given Deerhunter some serious competition for my top spot. Now with an early 2009 release it will spend most of this year in head-to-head competition with Animal Collective and I truly believe it stands a solid chance at trumping the fantastic Merriweather Post Pavillion! Yeah, those are powerful words.
You guys will get your chance to weigh in on this debate on March 3rd when The Antlers will self release Hospice via digital outlets and CD's (no word on any vinyl output, though my fingers are crossed!). There will also be a chance to celebrate the release of the record somewhere in Brooklyn the same week as the release and details of that event will be published on this site in the near future! For now The Antlers have decided to treat all of you with another track from Hospice which will accompany the already released and still wildly brilliant "Two". • Album des Monats Februar: Fanfarlo - Reservoir

Fanfarlo's debut album, titled 'Reservoir' is full of lovingly crafted, ever-endearing orchestral indie pop. Fanfarlo’s sound can be aptly described as a combination of lush, spirited instrumentation of Arcade Fire and and the warm, graceful tones of Beirut. The results are magical.
The band-approved preview track for the album is called “I’m a Pilot”. The song’s slow marching tempo and lovely strings remind me very much of “Crown of Love”. It builds to a wonderful climax that incorporates some cool slide guitar and an uplifting vocal. It’s an awesome track and will definitely get more people interested in Fanfarlo’s music, the real gem of this album though comes six tracks in with “The Walls Are Coming Down”. This is simply an absolutely gorgeous song. The band excels at writing beautiful arrangements and they absolutely knocks it out of the park in that department on this one. The trumpets, ukelele, and violins are weaved together to make a stunning, lush sound. Reservoir is amazingly consistent, no filler, no dull moments. musicforants.com
